Strengths

Very strong reliability; validated with 840 students using four dimensions of self-regulated learning.

Cautions

Limited validation outside Turkish students and the original study context; not established for predicting academic achievement or evaluating instructional effectiveness.

The Self-Regulated Learning Scale is a self-report survey that measures students’ use of strategies for managing and directing their own learning. The scale assesses four areas of self-regulated learning: forethought, control and regulation, monitoring, and evaluation and self-reflection. It is designed to capture how students plan for learning, manage their learning processes, monitor their progress, and reflect on their performance.

The scale can be used in education research to examine students’ self-regulated learning and its relationship to academic outcomes. It may also help educators understand areas of students’ learning that may benefit from additional support. The scale was developed and validated with students in Turkey and is primarily supported for use in secondary and higher education settings. It is a 59-item measure that uses a 10-point response scale.
